Dumbbell Hold: Does your dog mouth or chew the dumbbell? This is how I teach a simple matter of fact hold and bring to front with my dogs. I don’t teach a “take” command, just that a calm hold gets your reward. Separately,  I work on building drive and pick up to the dumbbell.(Previous Video: Building Drive to the Dumbbell Video) Once both are solid, you introduce them together for a full retrieve.
