Garmr fussing progression from 8wks old! It’s a simple straight forward process. Food lures to teach feet rhythm, then let them grow up for a bit, then use ball under armpit and eventually fade no ball. Rewarding intensity and the dog offering the correct position is key. We want the dog pushing us for the reward to make us pay them, versus always nagging them with the leash to be correct. Garmr motions progression from 8wks to 12 months old. There’s a lot of technical mechanics you want to teach using food before ever trying to use a ball. The key mechanic with Garmr has been not moving the front feet when changing positions. This way you get a rock back into the platz, and jump up into the sit. The stand I don’t care about a “hop” into it, just kick feet back up into it from a sit and don’t move your front feet. It transfers to a solid stand in motion with out exaggerating the lock up too much. Another key component is making sure the dog doesn’t rely on subtle unconscious handler help, and to teach to listen to just the verbal cue. Command…. Then Lure! :) Happy training!

In this video I cover the steps to teach your dog a parade / wrap finish where the dog goes around behind the handler and wraps into basic position. I’m using “around” right now instead of “fuss” because I haven’t decided which finish I want to end up using for trial yet. Once I decide I’ll just say “fuss / around” 20 times and he’ll learn “fuss” from front means parade finish.

Garmr’s first track! It’s been one long hot and dry summer, so I’ve just let it wait. He’s 21 months old and getting started. In this video I will be covering teaching your dog to Bark. Important points to remember is to reward intensity first, then work on duration. Also it is very important to make sure to only reward the specific tone of barking you want, as soon as you can while doing the least amount of help to get the dog to bark. We want the dogs to learn to activate on their own.

Here’s a quick obedience session before tug play, barking work. Fairly typical obedience training session, building duration in heeling, marking and paying him swinging his butt in on the left turns, smoothing out halts, and building on that constant stare at handler after motions was the goal of this session.
